the other f word – 40+ and still blue hair?

TheOtherFWord

This movie is out on DVD now, and I watched it two days ago. It’s a pretty cool documentary about a topic I am thinking about very often lately: How to grow old while living in a subculture? Or be a member of a subculture. So this movie is about the members of famous punk rock bands like Pennywise, Blink 182 or Bad Religion, and how it changed their life when they have become fathers and what really counts for them after having a family.

After watching the movie, I was thinking: Is it only an expression of teenage rebellion against anything like parents or society to accompany to a subculture or gang or music scene? And I was wondering: How to keep your interests and opinions as a punk, goth or rapper alive without remaining static or being like a grandfather to the newcomers? How to be accepted and respected as an equal adult while wearing Dr. Martens, blue hair or big tattoos? Is it always the question of changing sides or is there something in between? Or do people change that much in their 30s or 40s that they don’t care about this stuff anymore and become like normal? And how and where to live when you are a real senior artist, what is the best community?

So what do you think?

PS: There is another movie, which is a bit different, but made me think about these questions, too. It’s Cheyenne – This must be the place.
